Bathinda, June 20

The Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has tightened the noose around property tax defaulters in the city as it has issued more than 2,000 notices.

Now, it plans to start sealing drive if defaulters still don’t pay the outstanding tax.

These notices have been issued to owners of commercial and residential units.

This is after a long time that notices in such a large number have been issued.

After issuing the notices, people are coming up to pay their pending tax.

An MCB official said it was an irony that a large number of residents had not paid tax for 2013-14 and 2014-15.

This drive to issue notices has been initiated as the Union government has made it mandatory that 90 per cent recovery is must for getting funds.

An MCB official said it was an irony that a large number of residents had not paid tax for 2013-14 and 2014-15.

“We have planned to launch a campaign to collect tax from residents for this year. Strict action will be taken against those who have not paid the tax even once,” he added.

The Local Bodies Department has, on various occasions, offered special concession on paying tax on time but still 40 per cent of the people don’t care to pay the tax.

Apart from this, the MCB now will also continue with its sealing drive against tax defaulters of commercial units in the city.
