Prof Rao flays Cong for promoting liquor at Lambi rally

Born and brought up in Karnataka, Prof Pandit Rao Dharennavar who has initiated a movement in support of preservation and promotion of the Punjabi language and against persistent vulgarity in Punjabi pop songs, on Wednesday held a press conference at the Bathinda Press Club.

Addressing mediapersons, Prof Pandit Rao Dharennavar lashed out at the Congress government and alleged that the Amarinder government, which came to power over the issue of drugs, was itself promoting drugs nowdays.

He said by singing songs promoting liquor at the Congress rally held at Lambi recently, what message Punjabi singer Sherry Mann had try to give to the gathering.

He said on the one hand, the Congress was initiating a drive against drug menace, but on the other, Sherry Mann was singing songs promoting liquor. This had exposed the double standards of the government over the serious issue of drugs.

Prof had written a letter to PPCC president Sunil Jakhar, demanding his reply on this issue.

Prof Dharennavar is waging a war against increasing vulgarity in Punjabi songs.

“I have already filed a PIL against vulgarity in Punjabi. Punjabis should realise that there is no place for vulgarity in their beautiful culture. Ironically, the government has turned a blind eye to this. There is no policy or board to check this cultural malpractice. Even if no one comes forward and dare speak against it, I will teach a lesson to propagators of vulgarity in songs, which are a blot on the rich heritage. I will get such singers and music directors booked on the basis of my personal complaints to the police. It is my next mission to stop proliferation of vulgarity in Punjabi music,” asserted the scholar.
