Bathinda, July 9

Power Minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar on Monday said the state government’s crusade against drugs had broken the backbone of the drug trade, as a result of which addicts are resorting to a cocktail of habit forming drugs, which is taking their lives.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of Sangat Darshan at Dayalpura Bir village, Kangar said the family members of these addicts should bring them to the government de-addiction centres where they could be treated. He said the government was committed to rooting out the evil of drug addiction and stringent action would be taken against any government employee/official found to be aiding drug trade in any way. Already, the Rampura SHO and the munshi had been arrested in one such case, he added.

Terming the marginal hike in the MSPs of paddy and wheat as a cruel joke played on the farmers, Kangar said when the rates of diesel had registered such a massive increase, the hike in the MSP was negligible. The marginal increase in the MSP could not compensate for the steep diesel price hike in terms of economy. Answering a media query, he stated that the Powercom would soon give jobs to kin of those employees who died in harness. However, only those families would be given jobs who did not take compensation after the death of the employee. — TNS
