Poppy husk seized, seven arrested

Seven persons were arrested with 94 kgs of poppy husk from three places. The police also seized a car and a motorcycle.

Three cases under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act have been registered against the accused at the Talwandi Sabo and Sangat police stations.

Addressing mediapersons, Tarjinder Singh, in-charge of the CIA-2 wing of Bathinda police, the police deployed a naka near Talwandi Sabo and stopped two persons on a bike carrying a heavy bag.

When police signalled them to stop, the accused attempted to escape, but both were arrested. During search of the bag, the police recovered 50 kgs of poppy husk.

The accused have been identified as Raju Singh, a resident of Gurusar village, and Manpreet Singh, a resident of Talwandi Sabo.

During interrogation, they told the police that they purchased the contraband from Bheelwara district in Rajasthan for Rs 80,000 and it would be delivered to their regular customers.

Tarjinder Singh said the police also recovered 40 kgs of poppy husk from a Maruti-800 car (PB-13-H-0922) at a naka at Mirjeana village near Talwandi Sabo.

The police arrested four persons in this regard. The accused have been identified as Angrej Singh, Balraj Singh, Fakir Singh and Harjinder Singh, residents of Gurusar Jagga village, in Talwandi Sabo subdivision.

On the other hand, the Sangat police arrested Kaka Singh, a resident of Pathrala village, from a naka at Doomwali village. The police recovered 4.5 kgs of poppy husk from the accused.

Two held while escaping
