Fuel stations observed a half-day strike in the city today over sealing of a petrol pump at Gole Diggi late last night over allegations of providing less fuel to a customer than what he paid for.

Later, the petrol pumps were opened after officials of the Weights and Measures Department gave a report in favour of the petrol pump and it was unsealed around 12 pm.

Last night, a youth alleged that he paid Rs 80 for petrol at the pump but the quantity of fuel delivered was less than what it should have been. Thereafter, chaos was witnessed at the petrol pump.

Complainant Suraj Kumar, a resident of SAS Nagar, also dialed number 100 of the police control room.

The police reached the spot and through a pipe, petrol was taken out from the motorcycle, which was found to be too little in quantity.

As the issue was related to the Weights and Measures Department, officials concerned were informed and the petrol pump was sealed last night.

This morning, inspector Sareen and assistant inspector Rakesh Kumar Garg today inspected the petro pump.

They said they had received a complaint due to which they had to check the machine.

They checked the hardware and software of the machine to get the reason behind the last night incident.

President of the Petroleum Dealers Association, Bathinda, Vinod Bansal said after the chaos created by a person at the petrol pump, all fuel stations went on a strike from 6 am to 12 pm. After the officials gave a clean chit, we opened the petrol pumps.”

He said the association would not stand by any fuel station that indulges in such tricks to mint money.

The administration should be conscious as people also try to defame fuel stations at times, he added.
