Bathinda, June 19

People visiting the DC office and other government offices for their work had to return empty handed on Wednesday due to an indefinite strike by employees. The strike by the DC office staff entered its second day on Wednesday.

The DC office employees had initiated their strike on Tuesday. On the first day, they had staged a protest in support of their long-pending demands. They also raised slogans against the state government and Finance Minister Manpreet Badal.

Led by Megh Singh Sidhu, the protesters said they had staged a symbolic dharna on June 2 and given an ultimatum of 10 days to the government for accepting their demands. The employees added that they had also made it clear that they would proceed on an indefinite strike if the government did not fulfil their demands.

The employees’ union had decided to go on an indefinite strike from June 18 for not accepting their demands.

The protesters said they would strike work at the DC office, SDM office, tehsils and sub-tehsils. Their major demands are recruitment of staff in newly formed sub-divisions, release of remaining three DA installments, implementation of the Pay Commission report and benefits of the old-pension scheme to CPF employees.
