Bathinda, May 17

Members of the Punjab Government Pensioners Welfare Association today met Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra and submitted a memorandum of demands, addressed to the state government.

They said the state government must heed their demands at the earliest.

Association leaders Darshan Singh, Baldev Singh and Ranjit Singh said the previous SAD-BJP government had first agreed to their demands and later, backed out of its promise. It led to disappointment among the pensioners, they added. The association leaders added that they had high hopes from the new Congress government.

They said that the state government must accept their demands for release of the remaining instalments of their dearness allowance and released the instalment of new allowance with effect from January 1, 2017.

Other demands of the association are revival of pension of the late pensioners and given to the worker’s dependents, implementation of the sixth pay commission and clearance of pending medical bills.

After listening to their demands, the DC assured the pensioners that he would convey their demands to the state government.
