Bathinda, June 18

With mandatory railway meals now becoming optional, passengers travelling on Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains can now pre-order fast food on their seats through online mode, phone call or an SMS.

The Indian Railways has tied up with food chains such as Domino’s, KFC, McDonald’s and Sagar Ratna, among others.

Even as the service began on June 15, passengers from the city travelling to Delhi by Shatabdi will only be able to get food from Domino’s, Mani Dhaba and Rohit Vaishno Dhaba, which are being shown on the website along with their menu and price list.

Passengers can order their food online on www.ecatering.irctc.co.in or call 1323 or SMS ‘MEAL’ followed by PNR number to 139 and place order.

To order food online, passengers need to choose the station where they want the food delivered.

Once the station is selected, passengers can browse through available food joints and place the order.

An OTP verification is delivered to the customer after placing the order.

Meals need to be booked two hours in advance. Payment can be done through cash on delivery.

This will be beneficial for the passengers travelling in long route trains.

Passengers from here have always complained that after crossing northern Indian, they don’t get north Indian food in the trains.

But now, through this option, they can pre-plan their food menu and can order according to their taste.

In June last year, the Railways conducted a 45-day trial on Patna Rajdhani, Delhi-Mumbai August Kranti Rajdhani, Pune-Secunderabad Shatabdi and Howrah-Puri Shatabdi, which generated great response and positive feedback from passengers.

Thereafter, the Union Railway Ministry started the service across the country.

Railway station superintendent Ramswaroop Meena said the project was in process but he was not aware weather it had started or not.

Railway station commercial movement inspector MR Khan said, “The IRCTC is doing it, due to which we don’t have any information regarding this. We will check whether it has been started or not as it was in process.”
