Passenger train engine catches fire, no casualty reported

BATHINDA: The engine of Bathinda-Suratgarh passenger train (59711) caught fire 5 minutes after it departed from the Bathinda railway station.

The engine of Bathinda-Suratgarh passenger train (59711) caught fire 5 minutes after it departed from the Bathinda railway station.

The train, bound for Suratgarh, left the railway station at 2.15 pm. The driver halted the train after spotting the flames.

Meanwhile, a retired railway employee, Sohan Singh, a resident of Street No. 6 of Lal Singh Basti, who was watering his under construction house located close to a place where the train halted, ran towards it with a water pipe in his hand. He helped in controlling the fire.

Another engine was sent to the spot and it pulled the passenger train back to the railway station, from where it left for its destination.

Station superintendent Pardeep Sharma said no casualty had been reported in this incident.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and it will be identified after a detailed inquiry into the incident, he added.
