Bathinda, June 23

Policemen of the PAP Battalion who have served for about 10 years in the Bathinda district will play an important role to control crime and traffic as a number of constables have been shifted to the PCR and traffic wing.

The PAP Battalion with 70 policemen had been deployed in the district after the formation of the Akali-BJP government in 2007.

Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his family members used to visit the district regularly.

Policemen from this battalion would be deployed during their visit in the last 10 years till March 2017.

These policemen had also played an important role when protests were held almost every day in the district during the SAD-BJP government.

Now, such VIP duties and protest are not so common.

Senior functionaries have transferred 50 policemen in the PCR wing. There are 25 teams with one motorcycle each.

SSP Naveen Singla said now, the city is big than what it was in the past.

“We have received complaints regarding patrolling in the city. So, we have decided to shift these guys to the PCR wing. The 25 teams will serve every day in two shifts of 12 hours each,” he said.

The teams will reach the spot in 15 minutes after the complaint is received in the police control room.

He said the rest 20 members were shifted to the traffic wing. Now, 90 policemen will control the traffic in the city. — TNS
