Bathinda, July 17

Residents in outer areas are facing problems as the contract for supplying water through tankers got expired two months ago.

The MCB had floated a tender for this but no contractor showed interest. Left with no options, residents have to bring it from hand pumps or RO plants installed in their nearby areas.

Around 30 per cent areas in the city are still deprived of proper water supply. Residents in these areas have to depend on water tankers.

Water is being supplied to areas, including Lal Singh, Bangi Nagar, Pratap Nagar, Amarpura Basti, Naruana road, Udham Singh Nagar, Janta Nagar, Oriya Colony and Jogi Nagar through water tankers.

There are some areas where water pipes have been laid and connections have also been installed, but despite this residents are not getting water supply.

Gurmeet Singh, a resident of Bangi Nagar, said, “We are facing problems as earlier, the MCB was providing them water through water tankers, but now, water tankers are not coming and we have to bring it from nearby areas.”

Mandeep Kaur, a resident of Bangi Nagar, said, “It is really sad to see that politicians make tall claims during elections, but once the polls are over, they hardly bother to resolve the problems of the residents. Many years have passed and the governments have failed to provide civic amenities to the residents.”
