Bathinda, December 10

Around 200 police personnel swooped on the Bathinda Central Jail early on Monday morning to conduct a joint search with the jail authorities.

Although no big recovery was made from the inmates, police officials believed it would serve as a deterrent to prisoners who are involved in drugs or keeping illegal things with them.

The raid was conducted under the supervision of SP (City) Gurmeet Singh on the instructions of SSP Dr Nanak Singh.

SSP Dr Nanak Singh said, “The police conducted a surprise check at the Central Jail on Monday morning. Within a few minutes, police personnel fanned out in the entire jail and searched the barracks. All jail inmates were frisked to check if they were in possession of unauthorised items.”

He termed this as a routine exercise and claimed this would continue in future as well.
