No clues yet in 11 murder, 213 burglary cases in 2 years

Eleven murder cases registered by the Bathinda police in the last two years are yet to be cracked, as per the annual crime report submitted by the police to the state police headquarters recently.

According to the report, 40 cases of murder were registered in 2017, out of which 37 were solved. In 2016, 63 cases of murder were registered, out of which 8 are yet to be solved. The comparative crime chart of last two years revealed that 98 rape cases (40 in 2016 and 58 in 2017) were registered and only one case remained unsolved.

A number of kidnapping cases (30) also remained unsolved in the last two years. In 2017, 61 cases of kidnapping were registered, of which 9 are yet to be cracked. Similarly, in 2016, 52 cases out of 73 were solved.

Cases of burglary too gave a headache to the police, as 213 out of total 320 cases registered in the last two years (140 in 2016 and 180 in 2017) are yet to be solved. The police registered most of the cases (792 — 246 in 2016, 546 in 2017) under the NDPS Act in the last two years and only 18 cases were unsolved.

Besides, 352 accused were convicted by the courts and 1,142 persons were acquitted in 2016. In 2017, 337 accused were convicted and 957 acquitted.

37 out of 40 murder case solved

According to the report, 40 cases of murder were registered in 2017, out of which 37 were solved. In 2016, 63 cases of murder were registered, out of which 8 cases are yet to be solved.
