Bathinda, November 10

The Bathinda police have arrested a Nigerian, allegedly involved in supplying drugs, and another person from New Delhi and recovered 310 gram of heroin.

Addressing a press conference, SP (Crime) Swaran Singh Khanna said the drug business in the state would see a decline with the arrest of Nigerian Michael Cokwady alias Brink, who was living at Surajmal Vihar in Dwarka, New Delhi, and Gurmeet Singh alias Nikka, a resident of Krishna Colony.

While searching Gurmeet Singh, a CIA-1 team, along with the Delhi police, arrested both accused from Uttam Nagar on the night of November 8.

The police recovered 260 gram of heroin from Brink and 50 gram from Nikka, he added.

He added that during interrogation, the Nigerian revealed that in 2013, he had come to India to do cloth business, which he carried on for a year at Uttam Nagar.

During that period he met Shine, also a Nigerian citizen, who was into drug business and was living at Tilak Nagar, he added.

Later, Brink also took to drug business. He used to purchase drugs from Shine and sell them further. Shine use to give him Rs 10,000 for selling 100 gram heroin.

Brink said six months ago, he met Gurmeet Singh through Shine and started selling heroin to the latter at Rs 1,500 per gram.

Earlier too, the Bathinda police had arrested two Nigerians in drug cases.

A case has been registered against both under the NDPS Act at the Civil Lines police station. They were presented in the court and they have been sent to four-day police remand.
