Muktsar: Dr RK Uppal, a prolific writer and an academician, has recently been honored with honorary 'Doctor of letters' degree in Economics (banking and finance) by Nelson Mandela University, USA. At present, he is serving as an associate professor of economics at DAV College, Malout, and Principal Investigator of a UGC-funded major research project on Indian banking. He has authored/edited 72 books. Since 2014, some of his books earned global recognition with Google scholar citation. He was awarded honorary D.Litt degree by reputed Business University, Costa Rica, in 2014. TNS

Two booked for wheat theft

Muktsar: The Malout (city) police have booked two persons, including an inspector of the Punjab Agro, for allegedly misappropriating wheat from a godown on Ghumiara Road in Malout. Those booked have been identified as inspector Harsimranjit Singh and Ravi Kumar. As per the FIR, the duo misappropriated 2.5 quintals of wheat. TNS
