Upset with wife, in laws; youth ends life

BATHINDA: Upset with his in-laws, a youth ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan in his house in Amarpura Basti on Saturday. A suicide note has been recovered from the deceased, which the police have taken into its custody.

Upset with his in-laws, a youth ended his life by hanging from a ceiling fan in his house in Amarpura Basti on Saturday.

A suicide note has been recovered from the deceased, which the police have taken into its custody.

On a statement of deceased’s mother, the police have registered a case against seven persons, including deceased’s wife, on a charge of abetment to suicide. Cases have been registered against wife of the deceased Soma alias Jaspreet, her mother Charamjit Kaur, father Balvir Singh, brother Tarsem Singh, sister Neha and her relatives Kala Singh and Pappi.

Shaheed Jarnail Singh Welfare Society president Avtar Goga said: “On Saturday, they got information that Sukhmander Singh alias Bobby, a resident of Amarpura Basti, has committed suicide by hanging from a fan. After getting the information, their members reached the spot and in the presence of Vardhaman police, took the deceased’s to Civil Hospital.”

In a statement given to the police, deceased’s mother Sukhjit Kaur said on Rakha Bandhan, Soma wanted to go to her parents’ house, whereas her son said to her that they would go in the morning and return back by the evening. However, Soma wanted to stay there, due to which both had a fight. After that, her Soma’s family members came and took Soma along with them. The next day, her son called Soma and asked her to come home, she refused to return.

She further stated that when her son talked to his in-laws, they threatened him. Irked over this, he committed suicide, she added.
