Bathinda, July 20

The birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated at Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant, Lehra Mohabbat, with much fanfare on Friday.

Baldev Singh Sran, CMD of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Kulbir Singh Mashiana, Chief Engineer (O&M) of the plant, inaugurated a plantation drive under which they planted 1,000 saplings of Gulmohur tree.

Mashiana said: “It’s the duty of every citizen to plant at least one sapling with their own hands so that next generations could breathe in the atmosphere of Tandrust Punjab.”

The sandy soil of the Malwa region is ideal for growth of all kinds of plants. The total area of the thermal plant is 1,000 acres, out of which, a green belt would be set up in 180 acres by planting saplings of Shisham, Neem, Drek, Chandni, Amaltas, Kajoreena, Rajain, Hibcus, Silver oak, Arjun, Kikkar, Jamun, Bottle Palm and Gulmohur, among others.

It is pertinent to mention here that the excess sewerage water of the plant is treated to meet irrigation need for irrigation of the green belt. This activity of proper utilisation of sewerage water is dedicated to “Tandrust Punjab Mission”.
