Perturbed over the delay in the repair of the village road, residents of four villages, under the banner of BKU Ugrahan, on Monday protested in front of the Public Works Department (Building and Roads) office here. Local AAP MLA Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer also joined the protest and demanded that the road should be repaired at the earliest.

The protesting residents, hailing from Kattu Balian, Farwahi, Rajgarh and Uppli, alleged that the road of their village was constructed many years ago and it had damaged badly. They further alleged that despite their repeated requests, the PWD authorities did not take any action to reconstruct the road, which is leading to road accidents.

“If the PWD authorities failed to repair the road immediately, we would launch an indefinite protest. Many persons have lost their lives in road accidents due to the bad condition of the road. Even the officials of the PWD are fully aware of the problem, they are not taking the required steps to solve it,” said BKU Ugrahan leader Balor Singh.

MLA Hayer said the PWD officials had assured them that the road would be reconstructed.

“A PWD official informed that the road has been approved and it will be reconstructed soon. If the authorities failed to start the road repair work, we would start a protest,” said MLA Hayer.
