Bathinda, June 17

The police have booked Gautam Sharma, a local resident, after his wife Megha lodged a complaint with the police that he had been harassing her for quite some time and recently locked her up in the house along with her children.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Megha said her husband had an affair with a woman, a resident of the Civil Lines area, and he had been constantly pressurising her to give him divorce.

She said her daughter and son were under mental stress while their studies too were getting affected. She said her husband locked her up along with her children in the house recently, stating that they had a tough time battling heat and hunger. She said the police finally came to their rescue and got them released.

Her brother Raghav Sharma said they hailed from Tapa Mandi and his sister was married to Gautam in 2005. He said Gautam had been harassing his sister and her children for the last three years. He claimed that he himself had been bearing their expenses, including school fee. When contacted, Kotwali police inspector Sunil Kumar said a case had been registered against Gautam and his paramour. — TNS
