Bathinda, January 12

On the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, National Youth Day was celebrated at Government Rajindra College here today. Principal Mukesh Kumar Aggarwal presided over the function. The function began with the recital of college shabd.

Addressing students, the principal threw light on Vivekananda’s philosophy. He said his philosophy had been adopted by great personalities like Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose and APJ Abdul Kalam. The life history of such personalities guided one to the right direction in life. Keynote speaker Dr Vipin Pal Singh shared the teachings of Swami Vivekananda in simple and effective words.

Asked to sum up Swami Vivekananda’s life in one sentence by a student, Dr Singh summarised it in two words: detachment and concentration (amasakti and ekagarta).

Dr Gurjit Singh Mann proposed a vote of thanks. He advised the students to incorporate in their lives the message of rise, awake and stop not till the goal was achieved. He told them about the new philosophy of Raj Yoga given by Swami Vivekananda, which meant a merger of knowledge, concentration and action to realise real self.

The stage was hosted by Prof Seema Gupta. Prof Ashok Mittal, Prof Kamlesh Rani, Satveer Singh, Surjit Singh, Amla Sharma, Manoneet and Lakshmi Jain, among others were present.
