Bathinda, September 25

Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) passed 45 proposals out of the 47 tabled in the General House meeting held on Tuesday.

The debt-ridden MCB has passed various projects, worth crores of rupees, but it is yet not clear from where the money for these works would come. The MCB is eyeing funds from Union Government under AMRUT scheme, but it is yet not clear when the funds will be received.

Councillors have also passed a resolution against the work started by the Improvement Trust without taking an No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MCB.

SAD councilor Baljit Singh Raju Sra raised the issue and asked the MCB officials to clarify whether any agency could start work without taking an NOC from them.

Corporation secretary Vishal Wadhawan said no one can start work in MCB areas without an NOC as per law and then proposed a resolution stating that if any work is started by Improvement Trust without an NOC, the XEN rank officials would be held responsible.

The major proposals passed by the House include 110 development works of laying roads and repairing them, changing sodium streetlight with LED lights, conducting sewerage and water supply work under AMRUT scheme and various others, which would cost around Rs 60 crore.

A proposal regarding waiving off Rs 5 crore map approval fee of AIIMS, Bathinda, has also been approved.

The Corporation has also cancelled parking contracts in the city and now free parking would be provided to city residents. This decision has been taken in view of various complaints being received against parking contractors.

Meanwhile, Congress councillors boycotted the meeting as it started 40 minutes late than the scheduled time of 11 am. At the start of the meeting, a condolence resolution of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was presented by the Senior Deputy Mayor Tarsem Goyal and two-minute silence was observed.
