Faridkot: A 27-year-old married woman committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at her house in Dana Romana village under Kotkapura sadar police station here. The victim, identified as Sandeep Kaur, used to work at a boutique here. The body was brought to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination on Thursday. A man has been booked on the charge of abetment to suicide. The accused has been identified as Paramjit Singh, alias Pamma, a resident of Bihlewala village in Faridkot.  A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered against the accused on the complaint of the deceased’s husband Amandeep Singh. He blamed Paramjit Singh, a bus driver, for the death of his wife. Amandeep said his wife used to go to Faridkot by a mini bus, the driver of which was Paramjit, and he started harassing her. Amandeep said the accused had proposed 

to his wife for marriage. TNS

Candle march taken out

Barnala: Residents of Handiaya town here on Thursday took out a candle march and demanded strict action against the rapists of a minor girl from Kathua. “The rape accused must be hanged to prevent such crimes in future,” said Harpal Singh, a resident. The candle march started from the tempo stand and passed through the main market. “In such cases, the government must make arrangements for a quick trial so that the verdict can be announced at the earliest,” said Rajwinder Singh, another resident. Woman injured in cylinder blast

Bathinda: A woman sustained injuries after a gas cylinder blew up at Kotbhai village on Wednesday. The victim has been identified as Manjeet Kaur. The whole house was damaged in the incident. Residents of the village and her relatives took her to a local private hospital, where she was referred to the burns ward of the Civil Hospital. According to sources, the LPG cylinder was leaking at home. Karnail Singh, the victim’s husband, said many adjoining house were also damaged in the blast. TNS
