A man was killed over a petty dispute while boozing at a roadside dhaba near Gol Diggi here late Sunday night.

The deceased has been identified as Pawan Kumar alias Jonny (34), a resident of Paras Ram Nagar.

As per information, Pawan was boozing with his friends at the eating joint near Gol Diggi when accused Atul also reached there with his friends to have drinks.

Both were seated on different tables, but after sometime, a fight ensued between them over an old financial dispute between them and within no time it turned bloody.

Atul first took the beer bottle in his hand and broke it by hitting it on the ground. Later he allegedly took a piece of broken beer bottle in his hand and attacked on Pawan’s head.

Pawan fell on the ground as it cut one of his nerves. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead by doctors.

After the incident, accused Atul fled from the spot, but he surrendered before the police on Monday morning.

After getting information, a Kotwali police team reached the spot and they took the body into their custody. They got the post-mortem conducted, after which the body was handed over to the deceased’s family.

The police have arrested the accused and have started interrogation.

Kotwali police station SHO Davinder Singh said accused Atul Kumar used to stay in a rented accommodation of the deceased and he had also taken Pawan’s shop on rent.

Pawan had a ration depot near a temple in Paras Ram Nagar and both were good friends, dispute over money had led to a fight between them some time ago. Since then both have not been on talking terms.

The SHO said the police had registered a case against the accused on the basis of the statement of the deceased’s brother Vinod Kumar. — TNS
