Malout, February 2

A man, who was caught by local residents in connection with theft incidents reported from the local grain market and handed over to cops, escaped from police custody at the Civil Hospital here on Saturday.

After some theft incidents at the grain market, youngsters had started keeping vigil at night. On Friday night, when Davinder Kumar, alias Kaka, tried to break open the locks of a shop, the alert youngsters caught him red-handed and handed over to the police.

However, late in the night, his health deteriorated and was taken to the Civil Hospital. Around 2 pm on Saturday, he gave the police the slip on the pretext of visiting the washroom and fled away.

Though cops and some persons present at the hospital tried to catch him, he managed to run away. Tejinderpal Singh, SHO, Malout (City) police station, said, “A man has fled from the hospital, but his accomplice has been caught. Efforts are on and he will also be arrested soon. The vehicle used to commit thefts has also been identified.”— TNS
