Bathinda, February 7

The Municipal Corporation Bathinda (MCB) is planning to deal strictly with people who throw garbage or other items on the road and litter public places.

With the aim of making the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan campaign a success, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath has given a green signal to the officials to deal with the violators strictly and impose a suitable fine on them.

The Municipal Corporation is planning strict action against the defaulters. The MCB has even started making preparations to frame bylaws for sanitation, construction and pets like dogs.

This will be kept for the approval of the councillors at the next general house meeting of the MCB. Different categories and slabs will be created and a charge will accordingly be imposed on the defaulter.

The aim behind making the bylaws is to act strictly against those who throw garbage on the roads and are a big hurdle in the drive to make the city clean and green.

The MCB had tried to spread awareness among the people regarding the cleanliness drive started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The MCB had organised street plays and seminars in the city. Even the NGOs were involved in the drive to create awareness among the city residents, but it failed to bring about any change. Because of this, the MCB has to act strictly and make people realise the seriousness of the drive, Nath said.

Mayor Balwant Rai Nath said it is for the first time that the corporation is framing bylaws on its own for tackling the problem of garbage. He stated that under the Municipal Act, there is provision to issue a challan against the person who throws garbage or other material on the road and send him to court. But by making its own bylaws, the MCB will create a provision by which it can impose a challan on its own, the Mayor said.
