Woman duped of Rs 1.20 lakh 

Bathinda: A resident of Balahar Binju village has been duped of Rs 1.20 lakh in an immigration fraud. In a complaint lodged by Swaran Kaur, it has been stated that accused Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Kamra Pati, Jaito, had demanded Rs 1.20 lakh for sending her abroad. She said she had given Rs 1.20 lakh to him, but later, the accused neither sent her abroad nor returned the money. A case under Section 420 of the IPC has been registered against the accused at the Civil Lines police station. TNS

One arrested with smack

Bathinda: The Nathana police have arrested a person with three gms of smack and 50 drug tablets. The accused, identified as Amandeep Singh of Ganga village, was arrested during checking at the village. A case has been registered against the accused at the Kotwali police station. TNS

Two held with illicit liquor

Bathinda: The police arrested Gagandeep Singh and Jiwan Singh, residents of Jagah Ram Tirath village, with 11 bottles of illicit liquor. The police also seized a motorcycle. The accused was arrested from Jagah Ram Tirath village during checking. A case under Sections 61, 1 and 14 of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused at the Talwandi Sabo police station. TNS

Labourer shot at by 2 persons

Bathinda: A labourer, who was returning home from fields, was shot at by two unidentified persons at Maluka village. The two fled from the spot on a motorcycle. The injured was taken to the Civil Hospital. As his condition was critical, he was referred to a private hospital in Bathinda. After getting information, the Dyalpura police reached the spot and started a probe into the incident. The injured has been identified as Nirmal Singh (35). The police have recorded his statement. In the statement given to the police, he has stated that he worked as a labourer in Jatinder Singh Mintu’s farm. As per routine, around 7.45 pm on Sunday, after completing his work, he was returning home on his cycle when the accused opened fire at him. TNS
