Journalist assaulted, SSP orders probe

BATHINDA: A local journalist of a Hindi newspaper was assaulted by unidentified persons on Thursday on the Bathinda-Goniana road. The journalist was identified as Neeraj Nanda, a resident of Bathinda.

A local journalist of a Hindi newspaper was assaulted by unidentified persons on Thursday on the Bathinda-Goniana road.

The journalist was identified as Neeraj Nanda, a resident of Bathinda. SSP Naveen Singla has ordered a probe in the matter and the Civil Lines police have started investigation.

Nanda, under treatment at the Civil Hospital, said he went for covering a story near Sepal hotel on Wednesday. On Thursday morning, when he was going with his friend Kamal Kataria on a motorcycle on the Bathinda-Goniana road, a car hit them, he said.

Around 8-10 persons came on motorcycles with rods, sticks and sharp-edged weapons and started assaulting them, he added.

According to Nanda, the accused were men who worked for Tochi, a scrap dealer (kabaria). Nanda had taken his version on Wednesday regarding a story.

The journalist has demanded action against the accused. SSP Singla said a probe was on and action would be taken after the inquiry is over.
