Unidentified men today stole gold jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh in cash from a house by breaking the locks in the Namdev road area.

The incident came to light when the family returned home this evening after visiting a relative.

The Civil Lines police, fingerprint expert and a dog squad reached the spot, but failed to find any clue.

Complainant Vijay Kumar said he had gone to Phulomithi village along with his family last evening. When he returned home today, he found the lock of the main gate broken.

He said thieves took away 160 gm gold, Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and silver coins worth Rs 50,000.

Kuldeep Singh Bhullar, SHO of the Civil Lines police station, said a police team led by ASI Jagseer Singh visited the spot and started investigation. The police also examined the CCTV footage outside the street, but got no clue.

Five snatching and four theft incidents were reported in the past 48 hours. The Civil Lines police have booked unidentified persons in connection with the theft of cash from a car on the Goniana road four days ago.

Vijay Kumar Jindal has lodged a complaint that unidentified persons stole a suitcase from his car by breaking a window pane and took away a suitcase carrying Rs 3.5 lakh. — TNS
