Int’l conference on food security from tomorrow in city

BATHINDA: Baba Farid College and IIFPT in collaboration with Society of Pharmacogonosy and Phytochemistry will organise a three-day international conference on “Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture — Emerging Techniques” from February 14-16 at BFGI.

Baba Farid College and IIFPT in collaboration with Society of Pharmacogonosy and Phytochemistry will organise a three-day international conference on “Food Security, Nutrition and Sustainable Agriculture — Emerging Techniques” from February 14-16 at BFGI.

This conference is being sponsored by the Union Ministry of Food Processing Industries. The aim is sharing latest advances, knowledge and technologies regarding agricultural production and food nutrition. Scholars, researchers, agricultural experts and scientists from the country and abroad will participate.

Sunil K Marwah, CEO, FICSI (Food Industry Capacity and Skill Initiative), will be the chief guest at the inaugural function. Dr DS Brar, IRRI, Manila (Philippines), and Dr Sharad P Kale, BARC (Bhabha Atomic Research Centre), Mumbai, will be the keynote speaker at the inaugural function. During the conference, five MoUs would be signed.

On the last day of the conference, an agri-entrepreneurship summit will be organized. It will discuss seed production, scope, goals and benefits to entrepreneurs in the first session. In the second, products and the scope of food processing entrepreneurship will be discussed.

At the valedictory function, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Cabinet Minister, Food Processing Industries, will be the chief guest while Dr C Anandharamakrishan, director, IIFPT, Thanjavur (Tamil Nadu), will be the guest of honour.

Dr Gurmeet Singh Dhaliwal, chief patron of the conference and chairman of BFGI, said the aim was to discuss the issues relating to the agricultural sector and their solutions. The conference will be beneficial for farmers, students, researchers and agricultural scientists.
