The principal of a government school, embroiled in a controversy after an indecent video was uploaded from his phone onto a WhatsApp group comprising several other officials of the Education Department, on Friday tendered an apology to the district education office.

Pawan Kumar, principal of Government Senior Secondary School, Multania, said the video was “unintentionally” uploaded by some children who were playing games on his phone while he was busy attending to guests at his home.

He added that he got to know about the mistake after another principal called him and told him about the video.

“I had received the video in another social networking group and since I didn’t have the technical knowledge about how to undo the wrong, I immediately left the group,” he said.

Apart from principals of government schools of Bathinda, those in Mansa and Gurdaspur and senior officials of the department are also members of the group.

Meanwhile, DEO (Secondary) Maninder Kaur said since senior officials of the department were also part of the group and had taken note of the incident, it was now up to them to decide what action was to be taken against the principal. — TNS
