HPTCL allows accurate measurement: Expert

A two-day workshop and hands-on training on ‘high-performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC)’ was organised by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products at the Central University of Punjab on Thursday.

The workshop was organised in collaboration with ANCHROM Enterprises India Pvt Ltd. The chief guests of the inaugural session were Prof Sanjay Jaichak and Professor IP Singh from NIPER, Mohali.

The objective of the workshop was to enhance the knowledge of participants about HPTLC. More than 60 participants from various institutes participated in the workshop. In the opening session, Prof Ramarao, Dean (academic affairs) and head of the department, highlighted the hi-tech and most advanced research facilities of the varsity’s central instrumentation laboratory (CIL) and discussed the applications of the HPTLC technique in various industries. He said the HPTLC was an economical method that allowed accurate measurements. He said the aim was to provide research-based innovative solutions to the pharmaceutical industry by using the technique.

Vice-chancellor Prof RK Kohli encouraged students and young researchers to actively participate in the workshop and conduct quality research in their respective discipline by using the technique. Later, Prof Sanjay Jaichak delivered a talk on ‘HPTLC: basics, principals, instrumentation and applications’. Dr IP Singh presented an analysis of medicinal plants and herbal drugs by using TLC and HPTLC techniques. The participants were also given a demonstration on HPTLC systems.
