Muktsar, April 26

PPCC general secretary Jagjit Singh ‘Honey Fattanwala’, who is a cousin of Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal, today said a local senior leader (without taking anyone’s name) was ignoring him and his supporters and thus he did not attend the meeting called in favour of Congress nominee from Ferozepur Sher Singh Ghubaya yesterday.

Leaving aside Honey, all senior leaders, including three former MLAs from Muktsar — Karan Kaur Brar, Bhai Harnirpal Singh ‘Kuku’ and Sukhdarshan Singh Mrar — had attended the meeting.

Honey said, “In the past, too, a senior local leader of the party has ignored me and my supporters, thus I did not attend the meeting called to support and welcome Ghubaya here. Ghubaya later visited my residence and I spoke to him in detail, ensuring full support. He ensured that there would be no chance of complaint in the future.”

Notably, Honey and former MLA Karan Kaur Brar have been at loggerheads even before the Assembly elections in 2017. Karan Kaur has, however, time and again said that she has no issue with Honey. “One should remain disciplined. I have no issue with any party worker, supporter or leader,” she has repeatedly said.

Honey, on his part, has been vocal about the differences. In December last year, Honey had gathered his supporters at his residence and accused Karan Kaur, who is the daughter-in-law of former CM Harcharan Singh Brar, of meddling in the affairs of district election authorities and declaring some villages reserved where he had a “stronghold”.

Further, in June last year, the duo had lodged two parallel protests against the Centre over the rise in fuel prices. Later, Karan Kaur had joined Honey at his protest site.

Even in December 2017, just before the state polls, Honey had opposed her candidature but later agreed to support her on the intervention of senior leaders.
