Bathinda, June 22
Continuing its drive under the Tandarust Punjab campaign, the Health Department on Friday carried out a check at Guru Kashi University in Talwandi Sabo and found dengue larva there.
As per a release issued here, the dengue larva was found from scrap and flower pots on the university campus.
Subsequently, the Nagar Council of Talwandi Sabo slapped a fine of Rs 11,000 on the university. Dr Ashwani Kumar of the Health Department urged people to ensure that their water coolers, flower pots and other such things don’t have stagnant water as it serves as a breeding ground for dengue larva.
Similarly, the Agriculture Department conducted a surprise check at shops of fertilizer and pesticide dealers in Sangat Mandi.
They also collected some samples from these shops. Officials of the dairy and food safety departments also collected milk samples from Rama Mandi.
Meanwhile, the Cooperative Department embarked on a plantation drive under which saplings will be planted within the city limits as well as rural areas of the district.
The campaign was launched with the plantation of saplings at a housing complex in Bathinda. — TNS
