Gang of thieves busted, 24 bikes recovered

BATHINDA: The police have busted a gang of thieves active in the city for the last six months by arresting six persons while two of its members are absconding.

The police have busted a gang of thieves active in the city for the last six months by arresting six persons while two of its members are absconding. The police have recovered 24 bikes from the accused.

All accused are residents of Jai Singh Wala village. A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sukhjeevan Shah alias Jeevan, Jagdev Singh alias Jugnu, Jangir Singh alias Jeera, Harjinder Singh alias Babby, Rinku and Roop Singh. Gurmukh Singh and Binder Singh are on the run.

Addressing mediapersons, DSP (City) Davinder Singh and SHO of the Kotwali police station Davinder Singh as thefts of bikes had increased, the police had started setting up special check posts in the city and had increased patrolling.

ASI Kulwinder Singh received a tip-off that the accused were present in the cotton market and had plan for a big loot, they added.

The DSP said a case had been registered against the accused under Sections 399, 402, 411, 413 and 473 of the IPC at the Kotwali police station.

The police have also recovered sharp-edged weapons from the accused.

DSP Davinder Singh said Sukhjeevan Shah was the gang leader, who was also booked in a snatching case.

They sold the bikes on cheap rates by feigning as employees of a finance company.

The accused would also change the numbers plates of the two-wheelers.

The Kotwali SHO said the accused were produced in the court today and remanded in three-day police custody.
