Gang of burglars busted, 5 held

The police have busted a gang of burglars by arresting five persons while two of its members are absconding.

Addressing mediapersons, SSP Naveen Singla said Rajinder Kumar, in-charge of CIA-1 wing of the Bathinda police, today received a tip-off about the gang, whose members were planning to loot a petrol pump or bank in the city.

The police have arrested Rohit Victor alias Vicky Christian, a resident of Railway Colony, Ishwar Dass, a resident of SS Nagar, Vijay Kumar, a resident of Railway Colony, Manpreet Singh, a resident of Partap Nagar and Amit Kumar, a resident of Zirakpur.

The police recovered one country-made pistol, three revolvers, 12 cartridges, 180 gm of gold, Rs 2 lakh, an LCD, a laptop, Rs 2,500 in coins and 550 gm of silver.

SSP Singla said the accused had looted Rs 3.96 lakh at gun point from Delhivery Private Limited Courier Company from Model Town, Bathinda, on June 5.

They also assaulted a person called Vishawnath and fired at him in Partap Nagar due to some personal conflict.

The accused burgled a house on July 12 and took away cash and gold of Rs 10 lakh. Two members of the gang, Gurpreet Singh Fauji, a resident of Bangi Nagar, and Ashu, a resident of Partap Nagar, are absconding, he added.

All accused would go to Zirakpur after committing the crime. Gang leader Vicky Christian is a graduate. All accused are drug addicts. 

Vicky was also involved in smuggling of illicit liquor in Haryana, the SSP said.

A case has been registered against the accused under Sections of 399, 402 and 411 of the IPC and 25, 27 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Kotwali police station. 

The accused will be produced in the court tomorrow. The police have also communicated with officials of their department in other districts about this gang.
