Kanungo caught red-handed taking bribe

The Vigilance Bureau today caught a senior revenue official (kanungo) red-handed while accepting bribe of Rs 5,000.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Vigilance Bureau, Sukhdev Singh Chahal, disclosed that the accused Daroga Singh, posted as kanungo at the sub-tehsil, Sangat, was apprehended on the basis of a complaint filed by Gurjant Singh, a resident of Kalyan Sukha village.

In his complaint, Gurjant Singh had alleged that Daroga Singh was demanding a bribe of Rs 15,000 for making a map of their land and the deal was settled at Rs 5,000.

Acting on the tip-off, a trap was laid by a team of the Vigilance Bureau. The accused Daroga Singh was arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant and this amount was recovered from him in the presence of government witnesses and a shadow witness.
