Bathinda: A tragedy was averted on Sunday when a tractor-trailer hit an electricity pole at Chatthewala village in Talwandi Sabo. Five persons travelling on the tractor-trailer were injured due to electric current generated by the pole. As per information, the injured have been identified as Gurpyar Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Rajwinder Singh, Satti Singh, residents of Kheevan Kalan, and Boota Singh, a resident of Kheeva Khurd. People living nearby called the 108 ambulance and they were taken to the Civil Hospital for treatment. TNS

Two held with 6-gm heroin

Bathinda: The police arrested two persons and seized 6 grams of heroin from their possession. The accused have been identified as Lovepreet Singh of Balraj Nagar and Sandeep Singh, a resident of the Mini-secretariat road area in the city. Both were arrested by a police team of the Canal Colony police station during a routine check near the T-point below the flyover on the Naruana road on Saturday. The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act. TNS

One arrested with drug syrup

Bathinda: The Rama police arrested a person and recovered habit-forming drugs from his possession. The accused Manak Singh is a resident of Rama. The police have recovered 104 bottles of syrup from his possession and an Alto car. The accused was arrested from the Rama village road. Another person named Kala Singh who was accompanying him succeeded in escaping from the spot. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against both at the Rama police station. TNS
