Malout, December 15

The Malout police have booked five persons, including a couple, for allegedly duping a Fazilka district resident of Rs5 lakh by promising him a job in the police. The accused are, however, yet to be arrested.

The complainant, Satnam Singh of Shamshabad village in Fazilka district, said he had filled a police recruitment form in 2016, but he did not find his name on the list of the selected candidates.

Thereafter, Rakesh Kumar of Sadhrana village approached him, promising him a job and demanded Rs 6 lakh, he added. The deal was finalised for Rs 5 lakh, which he paid to him after selling some valuables, alleged the complainant.

“Rakesh asked me meet him at the Malout bus stand. He brought his wife Veena Rani and three unidentified persons there. Later, Rakesh handed me over a fake appointment letter. When I went to his residence to meet him in this regard, he abused and threatened me,” the complainant told the police.
