Wheat crop on 22 acres was gutted in a fire that broke out in Bhagta village on Saturday. According to farmers, a spark in electricity wires caused the fire.

After getting the information, local residents gathered near the fields and called up the police and firefighters. Strong winds created problems for firefighter in dousing flames.

Jagjeet Singh and other farmers, whose crop was damaged, demanded compensation from the government.

Many farmers’ organisations, including BKU, said the government should give compensation to the affected farmers as they were already facing a tough time.

Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra has sought a report from local officials regarding the fire incident.

Gurpiyar Singh, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Diyalpura police station, said as per the preliminary investigation, the fire broke out due to a spark in electricity wires.

Crop on seven acres gutted in Malout village

Muktsar: Wheat crop on seven acres and stubble on nearly 50 acres were gutted in a fire that broke out in Tappakhera village of the Malout subdivision on Saturday.

Three firefighters from Malout also sustained minor injuries when they were dousing the flames.

Farmers said a short-circuit could be the reason behind the fire. However, the exact reason is yet to be known.
