Bathinda, January 18

A farmer was mauled to death by a stray dog while he was going to his fields at Malkana village of Talwandi Sabo.

As per information, Baru Singh (50) was going to his fields when the stray dog attacked him. He died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

He is survived by three daughters and two sons. His two daughters are married, one of his sons is in the army and the second is handicapped.

A few days ago, a pitbull dog had attacked a pedestrian on Mall Road in the city.

On an average, two residents become the target of stray dogs every day in the city.

A doctor at the Civil Hospital said the stray dog menace was quite high these days as, on an average, they receive two patients of dog bite every day.

Even as the problem is on the rise, the Municipal Corporation of Bathinda (MCB) has failed to launch the much-awaited sterilisation project to control the growing number of canines.

As per the census conducted in 2009, there were 5,237 stray dogs within the municipal limits in the city and now, the number has grown manifold.
