Faridkot sees 63.2 per cent polling

The Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday recorded 63.20 per cent polling. The Gidderbaha Assembly segment recorded the highest turnout of 70.64 per cent. The turnout in the Rampura Phul Assembly segment was 69.33 per cent.

In a report sent to the Election Commission of India, District Election Officer (DEO) Kumar Saurav Raj said polling was peaceful and no violence had taken place at any polling station set up in four districts for the Faridkot Lok Sabha seat.

Kumar Saurav Raj said a minor clash among supporters of two political parties was reported from Rampura Phul on Sunday and that took place outside a polling station. The District Election Officer said overall polling remained peaceful.

Of the total 1,613 polling stations in four districts comprising nine Assembly segments of the Faridkot Lok Sabha seat, 483 polling stations were set up in Faridkot district. A total of 4,64,939 are registered as voters in the district. A total of 15,35,716 are registered as voters in the Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency.

In Faridkot district, the highest turnout of 64.82 per cent was recorded in the Kotkapura Assembly segment followed by 64.66 per cent in Faridkot and 61.11 per cent in the Jaito segment.

Moga witnessed 56.95 per cent polling and with 54.72 per cent turnout in Nihal Singh Wala Assembly segment, enthusiasm of voters was also not much encouraging.

As the polling percentage in Dharamkot and Baghapurana Assembly segment was also 63.17 and 61.49 per cent respectively, the overall turnout in Moga district was 59.08 per cent.

Nearly 2,000 government employees were assigned poll duties. Besides, over 1,500 police and Central security forces personnel were deputed in Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency, said Kumar Saurav Raj.
