Experts dwell upon keeping mother language alive

The Students Literature Society of Punjabi University Regional Centre organised en event to observed International Mother Language Day on the campus premises recently.

The event was organised under the guidance of Bhavdeep Singh Tanghi, head of the Department of Post Graduate Studies.

Dr Buta Singh Brar, Dr Paramjit Singh Romana, Dr Jeet Singh Joshi, Dr Rajinder Singh and Dr Ravinder Singh Sandhu dwelled on the importance of keeping the mother language alive. Students also shared their views on the subject.

The experts opined that adapting to the mix of cultures was the need of the hour. It was important to remain in touch with his/her roots while using the mother language, they added.

A similar programme was also organised at the Baba Farid Group of Institutions here today.

Dr Romana addressed the students here as well and emphasised on the usage of mother language to keep their respective languages alive.

Expressing his pleasure over the fact that Punjabis were promoting the language across the world, he insisted that the youth should also not be ashamed of promoting their mother language.

He said one's mother language and the use of the same was also an indicator of one's love and attachment to one's homeland.

He also dwelled upon the need for rewriting or translating the books of all subjects, including technical subjects, to make sure that all subjects were available for the students hailing from even rural background.
