Experts dwell on advancements in treatment techniques

As many as 310 delegates participated in the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Emerge Medical Conference at hotel Three Palms in city on Sunday.

Doctors from the region presented orations on various treatment techniques at the conference.

Dr Navjot Dahiya, president-elect of IMA, Punjab, was the chief guest. He inaugurated the event by performing a lamp-lighting ceremony.

Before starting the conference, ‘saraswati vandana’ was performed. An IMA souvenir was also released by Dr Dahiya and other IMA state body leaders on the occasion.

A sufi musical night was also held late evening to entertain delegates after completion of the conference. During the conference, as many as 15 lectures on various topics were delivered by doctors from various renowned medical institutions of the region.

Dr Chabbra, president of IMA, Bathinda, welcomed Dr Navjot Dahiya and expressed gratitude to one and all present on the occasion. Dr Ravi Kant Gupta, vice-president of IMA, Bathinda, welcomed all delegates. Dr Saurabh Gupta, vice-president of IMA, Bathinda, managed and coordinated the conference. Dr Janak Raj Singla from Punjab Medical Council, Mohali, was present as observer for the event.

Dr Prashant Patil delivered an oration on ‘what’s new in IVF’, giving an in-depth account of latest developments in the sector. Dr Gursewak Singh dwelt on ‘acute GI bleed’ and Dr GS Gill delivered a lecture on pulmonary embolism, under diagnosed and often missed clinical entity. Dr Pradeep Sharma delivered an oration on ‘care of newborn’ and Dr Ashok Uppal talked about stroke mimics. A lecture on ‘depression in professionals with special reference to doctors’ was delivered by Dr BL Goyal. The role of interventional radiology in the treatment of HCC was highlighted by Dr Maheshinder Singh. Dr Sushil Kotru delivered a lecture on management of hyperglycemia in hospitalised patients and Dr Puskhkar Bansal spoke on ‘role of CT in various specialities, with recent advances’.

In the second session, Dr Saurabh Gupta delivered a lecture on advancements and lasers in urology and Dr Nitin Londhe delivered an oration on medico-legal aspects of practice. Dr Gurbir Singh Bhandari spoke on ‘role of biological agents in rheumatoid arthritis’ and Dr Bhasin spoke about microslide technology in biochemistry. In the final oration, Dr Col IVS Gahlot delivered a lecture on medical negligence and its prevention.
