Traffic awareness drive a welcome step
The awareness drive on traffic rules launched by the Bathinda police and a local NGO, Sahara Welfare Club, is a welcome step. Traffic police personnel and the volunteers deployed at various crossings and light points are seen requesting the drivers to observe traffic rules, maintain speed limit, use safety belts and helmets, avoid drunken, rash and irresponsible driving.
The violators of traffic rules are issued challans. It shall be in the fitness of things if the general public, especially the youth, are counselled in view of their own safety and that of the other passersby. The drive should be continued with vigour and commitment to get long lasting positive results. The general public should also extend all possible help by following traffic rules in letter and spirit to make the drive a success. After all, nothing is more precious than human life.

Shatabdi fulfills a long-pending demand
The launch of Shatabdi Express to New Delhi is a New Year gift to the people of Bathinda in particular and the region in general.
The Shatabdi shall be a boon to all those who desperately need to reach Delhi to catch onward trains to East and South India. It will definitely reduce the journey time including the long lead waiting period for trains starting from Delhi to other states.
The Shatabdi shall also provide a respite to those working in cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru as they can catch a connecting flight. Moreover, there are a number of people who need to reach New Delhi and had to travel from Bathinda to Sangrur and catch Ludhiana Shatabdi which was taxing for them. To sum up, it is one of the best things to have happened to Bathinda.
Let us hope that the frequency of this train is increased from two to at least four days a week.
