This Dasehra, an effigy of ‘chitta’, a synthetic drug, will be burnt along with effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad in Muktsar town.

The Sri Muktsar Dasehra Committee has made a 35-ft-long effigy of ‘chitta’ in an attempt to discourage the use of drugs among the youth.

“An effigy of ‘chitta’ will be burnt along with other effigies so that the state can get rid of drugs. It is just an attempt to dissuade addicts,” said Ramesh Girdhar, senior vice-president of the Sri Muktsar Dasehra Committee.

He said, “The previous committee could not celebrate Dasehra last year, so we formed a new committee and took some major decisions such as burning an effigy of ‘chitta’. The Deputy Commissioner and local Congress leaders will attend the event to be organised to celebrate Dasehra.”

He said some local artistes were preparing the effigies and these would be burnt at a vacant plot of nearly four acres on the Bathinda-Kotkapura bypass road.

In Malout town, Dasehra would be celebrated after a gap of two years.
