Devotees throng temples on Mahashivratri

BATHINDA: Mahashivratri was celebrated with fervour and gaiety here today, with thousands of devotees thronging Shiva temples across the city.

Mahashivratri was celebrated with fervour and gaiety here today, with thousands of devotees thronging Shiva temples across the city.

Serpentine queues of men and women could be seen outside many temples since morning.Devotees offered milk, honey, fruits at the temples.

Heavy crowds thronged the Pracheen Shiv temple near Mehna Chowk, Shiv temple in Partap Nagar, Gyarah Rudra temple in Parasram Nagar, Harihar temple in Railway Colony, Jai Durga temple in Parasram Nagar, Har Har Mahadev temple near Railway Road, and Panchmukhi Balaji temple in Jogi Nagar.

A procession to mark the day was also taken out by several religious organisations. Another procession was taken out by Har Har Mahadev temple.

During the procession, artistes dressed up as Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

They also showcased the wedding ceremony of the two. The Trimurti Shiv Jagaran Sewa Samiti organised a jagaran on the occasion.

Bhajan and kirtan sandhyas were organised at the temples, starting evening hours and continued well beyond midnight, after which the priests distributed prasad among the devotees with which they opened their fasts.
