Bathinda, February 15

MC Commissioner Anil Garg today ordered a probe into the issue of defunct motors installed at the canal colony pumping station. The Commissioner also pulled up officials of Triveni Company and the Sewerage Board and asked them to work carefully.

Yesterday, after receiving complaints of sewage overflow in the low-lying area, Senior Deputy Mayor Tarsem Goyal visited the pumping station where he came to know that the four motors installed at the pump were lying defunct.

But officials of the civic body, Sewerage Board and Triveni Company claimed that all motors were working.

The MC Commissioner and the Senior Deputy Mayor summoned VB Shivangi, DGM, Triveni Company and Ashwani Kumar, XEN, Sewerage Board, along with the officials concerned. Mayor Balwant Rai Nath and Joint Commissioner BD Singla attended the meeting at the Municipal Corporation (MC) office.

At the meeting, the officials of Triveni Company said the news published in the media regarding defunct motors is wrong. But the Senior Deputy Mayor countered the claims of the company saying yesterday he visited the canal colony pumping station and found that all motors were lying defunct.

He said it seems that the motors had been lying defunct since long.

The MC Commissioner lashed out at the officials and warned them that negligence would not be tolerated at any cost.

The officials of the civic body asked Triveni Company officials why they did not tell the Senior Deputy Mayor that the motors had stopped working due to leakage in hack boxes and the Mayor was aware of the issue.

However, company officials did come up with a satisfactory reply on the issue.

The issue related to the official hand over of the canal colony pumping station to Triveni Company also came up at the meeting.

Instructions have also been given to complete the paper work and hand over the pump at the earliest.
