Bathinda, December 7

Farmers of Dan Singhwala village, under the banner of BKU (Ugrahan), staged a protest over the erratic power supply that is affecting the watering of crop (submersible pumps) during the wheat sowing season.

The protesters raised slogans against the Powercom authorities and alleged that the power grid at the village was not supplying electricity on a regular basis as a result the farmers have to suffer a lot.

The protesters added that whenever they bring the matter of erratic supply of power to the officials concerned at the grid, the latter tell them that they had got directions from the Patiala head office to impose power cuts.

Gurpreet Singh, president of the union (village), said, “Power cuts at regular intervals are disrupting the watering process in the ongoing wheat sowing season. As submersible pumps are not working without power supply, farmers are deeply affected by the arbitrary attitude of authorities.”

Singh added, “The water supply from the canal is also stopped that is taking extra toll on the farmers who are left with barely any alternative to water their fields.”
