Bathinda, May 19

The main pipeline laid for the disposal of sewage and rainwater from Power House Road today got damaged near Haji Ratan Chowk due to which sewage got accumulated on the main GT Road.

The pipeline has been closed for repairs due to which the chances of sewage overflow in various areas of the city have also increased.

Though the repair work has been initiated by the Sewerage Board and Triveni Company, this work may take a while.

Officials have claimed that arrangements have been made to tackle the situation.

An official of Triveni Company said pipeline was laid many years ago and it might have burst due to increase in pressure.

Sewerage Board XEN Ashwani Kumar said the pipeline was laid in 2009-10 to dispose of the sewage and pump out rainwater.

“The pipe is old due to which it has started leaking at various spots. Today, it burst near Hazi Rattan Chowk. Workers are on work and at present, we can’t comment on the duration of time the repairs would take,” he said.
