The court of Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Talwandi Sabo, has ordered the jail authorities to conduct the medical examination of jail inmate Jagtar Singh, a resident of Ghuman Kalan village, after his wife raised an allegation of torture by police officials while he was in police remand.

In a complaint lodged by Karamjit Kaur, wife of the jail inmate, she has stated that her husband was arrested by the police in a case under the Arms Act at the Maur police station on September 30 and was sent to judicial remand.

She added that on October 6, the Maur police obtained production warrant of Jagtar and took him into custody from jail from October 6 to 8.

She alleged that on October 7, she went to meet her husband to the police station where police officials demanded bribe from her and when she refuse to give the money, they mercilessly beat up and tortured Jagtar Singh.

Moreover, she claimed that on October 9, when she went to the Central Jail, she was not allowed to meet him.

Later, on October 11, she again went to meet him and was shocked to see him badly injured and when she enquired, Jagtar Singh disclosed that he was beaten up by Maur police officials at the police station.

Bathinda Central Jail superintendent SS Sahota said they had got the medical examination of inmate Jagtar Singh conducted at the Civil Hospital.

Maur SHO Jaskaran Singh, refuting the allegations, said she was making baseless allegations to divert attention as a .315 bore pistol was recovered from Jagtar and earlier too, a case regarding land dispute involving him was going on.
